Finally! JPEG is good

After a week off from shooting sport I got back to action last night to shoot EMU vs. Toledo game. AS you may know, I shoot RAW all the time, yes even sport! So I thought to give JPEG try again. This time with a new toy, an expodisc. Which adjust the white balance in your camera and give you a close natural colors. The white balance was the reason I shoot Sport in RAW format. However, last night with using the expodisc, I got really nice colors on my photos and the best part… I didn’t have to go through my usual long post processing workflow. I had my shots ready for posting in...

Bowen Field House

It has been a long time since I updated my website. I have been busy with men and women college basketball season. I’ll post some of those later. Today I have another HDR experiment that I did as a pert of a personal project that I made for myself. I’ve been shooting sport for a long time and I don’t want to stick to one type of photography. This was suppose to be an experiment for later real shoot, but because it took a lot of work I decided to stick with it for a while until I shoot a better on in the summer. Standing on the roof of the parking structure at EMU campus...

Waking up HDR Skills

3 months ago almost all the photos I was taking were an HDR. However, after starting taking photos the paper, I was busy to to do any personal projects. Last week during EMU basketball game I decided to try a 3frames HDR to practice and remove the rust off the little skills I have. When I started working on these frames, I couldn’t believe how rusty I’m! I could’t even remember how to create a black mask on Photoshop! This is the final product after post processing with: HDR pro (form NIK software) and Photoshop. It’s a bad HDR. I don’t like it. It has a lot of...

Wide Angel

Although many sport editors in magazines and papers prefer close shotes over wide shotes, sometimes wide shots can stand among them. It’s not necessary the case in the photo above. It’s an experimenting with the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 which is so far do an amazing job! But that maybe a topic for deferent post. What I hate in using deferent lenses is changing the lens during the game. Because amazing things happens when you are looking away!

Shooting Basketball

When it comes to shooting sport nothing is easy. Your eyes have to be on players all the time waiting for that second when the magic happens. However, some sports are easier to shoot than others. Outdoor sport in a day light is usually easier to shoot because you have enough light to increase the shutter speed and freeze the action with minimum ISO. But if you are shooting indoor where you depend on the available lights inside, you will need fast lenses and more post processing. Especially if you use a cropped sensor camera. I’ve been shooting volleyball for a while now. It’s hard...
